There are many schools and colleges offering courses
for Reflexology training,
but how do you know which one to go to? What level of training will
you receive, will your qualification be widely recognised by all
employers, including the UK government and the NHS?
Jubilee College is fully accredited by
ABC Awards, and delivers
the new seven module qualification, accepted by the
Association of Reflexologists (AoR),
the Federation of
Holistic Therapists (FHT) and
Professional Reflexology
(PR).
The AoR and Professional Reflexology are the two
best known and highly respected professional Reflexology organisations in the UK.
They have Government recognition, are members of the Reflexology in
Europe Network, and are members of the Reflexology Forum. Both member
organisations offer exceptional insurance cover, regional support groups, an
internationally recognised journal, advice and information services,
promotional literature and activities, research initiatives and an ongoing
educational programme. The FHT is the largest multi-disciplinary
holistic association in the United Kingdom and also offers much in
support of its member therapists.
As a graduate of Jubilee College, you
will be able to register with the
NHS Register of
Reflexologists, become a member of the
any of the above organisations (without upgrading any Reflexology qualifications),
together with the
Complementary and
Natural Healthcare Council
(CNHC). Lastly, all graduates of Jubilee
College are allowed to use the initials GJC (Dip. Reflex) after
their name.
Training
takes the form of seven
modules:
-
Module Y501/9253 -
Principles and Practice of Complementary Therapies
-
Module T501/9101 -
Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology
-
Module F501/9117 -
Practical Reflexology
-
Module K501/9256 -
Health & Safety for Complementary Therapists
-
Module D501/9111 -
Less Common Pathologies for Complementary Therapists
-
Module H501/9255 -
Business Practice for Complementary Therapists
-
Module A501/9116 -
Reflective Practice for Reflexologists
These modules can be studied as a
whole, across one academic year, or can be
studied individually. From experience, we do recommended that they are
studied all together, as they all relate to one another and, therefore,
make more sense when studied cohesively. If studied one module at a time, it will take longer
to qualify, but we understand that different people work at different
speeds, and so we will endeavour to support students however they wish to learn.
The modules are interchangeable,
so if you have already studied one of these as part of another course, (ie you
have a diploma in A&P and Massage) then it is unnecessary to study A&P all over
again. (NB: This only applies if you studied the new modular qualification
with ABC Awards, C&G, ITEC or VTCT from 2011 onwards).
During your course, you will undertake 100 case
study treatments, three assessments of your practical skills (client
studies) and there will be homework to do in
your own time. The good news is, that there is no end of term exam - you
will build a portfolio of work throughout the course, and upon
successful completion of this (and your practical assessments), you will then
qualify as a professional Reflexologist.
Class sizes are kept small
to guarantee individual tuition, so to avoid disappointment, early booking
is recommended. To see what training is like at Jubilee College,
