Frequently Asked Questions

Confused about which course?

There are many courses and organisations, all apparently, offering the same level of qualification and training. However, as many students find out, this is not the case.

Firstly, find out if your course is recognised by the Association of Reflexologists (AoR). If you want to join the largest and best known Reflexology organisation in the UK, it is important that you get this first bit right. Below is a list of organisations who are and are not eligible for membership to the AoR:

  • VTCT (Vocational Training Charitable Trust) trained Reflexologists - Not eligible for membership - further training is required at the student's expense.

  • IIHHT (International Institute of Health and Holistic Therapies) trained Reflexologists - Not eligible for membership - further training is required at the student's expense.

  • ITEC (International Therapies Examining Council) trained Reflexologists - From 2010, if you have successfully completed the 7 unit Diploma course, you are eligible for full membership. If you have done the 5 unit course, further study is required. Students who did their ITEC course prior to 2010 will need to undertake a bridging course.

  • C&G (City and Guilds) trained Reflexologists - From 2010, if you have successfully completed the 7 unit Diploma course, you are eligible for full membership. If you have done the 5 unit course, further study is required.

  • ABC Awards trained Reflexologists - eligible for immediate full membership.

Next - find out how long the organisation has been established and how many members it has. You don't want to be a member of an organisation that is 'here today and gone tomorrow'.

  • VTCT - Established 1970.  This is an examining body and, as such, has no membership support for qualified Reflexologists.

  • IIHHT - This organisation has no website, so we are unable to comment on it's establishment or support.

  • ITEC - Established in 1979 as a beauty therapy training and membership organisation. It more recently developed a Reflexology course, according to its website, membership is only available to beauty therapists - Reflexologists have to become members of other organisations.

  • AoR - Established 1984 - has the UK's largest membership of over 8000, together with 63 local support groups around the UK.

Lastly, what other organisations recognise the qualification you are thinking of studying for, bearing in mind, it is a health qualification.  The most important organisations to consider are the NHS and UK Universities.

  • VTCT - No

  • IIHHT - No

  • ITEC - No

  • ABC Awards (in conjunction with AoR) - Yes!!

Why train on a course recognised by the Association of Reflexologists?

The Association of Reflexologists is the UK's foremost Reflexology organisation. It is recognised by the UK government, the NHS and has reciprocal links with all the European Reflexology organisations. All  schools are also accredited by ABC Awards (affiliated to the Quality Curriculum Authority (QCA)), so the qualification you get is also recognised by all employers and universities.

Why choose Jubilee College?

Jubilee College is one of the largest Reflexology training Colleges in the UK. It has four training venues in Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and another between Nottingham and Derby. David Wayte, the College Principal, is the only Reflexologist in the UK to be a member of the Royal Society of Medicine, is a fully qualified lecturer, having trained at DeMontfort University, and is a Fellow of the Association of Reflexologists. Jubilee College has a success rate of 97% and operates a 'lifetime support' system for all graduates. Students wishing to swap training dates between the venues are able to do so, making training throughout the year easier. Jubilee College also operates a flexible training plan, so you can choose if you want to study over a year, 14 months, 17 months or 2 years.

What entry qualifications do I need?

To succeed on this course, it is more about determination and hard work (since the course is intensive) than previous qualifications. A GCSE in Biology will be helpful, but is not essential.

How long does the course last?

The practitioner's diploma course runs for one academic year (Sept - July). However, some students prefer to delay the end of term exam, allowing themselves extra time for revision.  In order to accommodate this, there is a choice of three exam dates each year - July, November and February.

What happens if I can't get to all the training dates?

100% attendance is required for the duration of the course. However we do understand that life is full of unexpected circumstances. Therefore the course is designed so students can swap training dates and go to other venues.

What happens if I fail the end of term exam?

Don't worry - the national average is a 70 - 80% pass rate, so there is a statistical chance that someone in the class will fail. However, at Jubilee College we encourage students to come back (AT NO EXTRA COST) in the following September and undertake further study. There is then the opportunity to retake the exam in either November of February. The only cost applicable is the re-sit fee. All further training is free of charge.

What qualification will I get?

You will qualify with a Level 3 Practitioner's Diploma in Reflexology, Anatomy & Physiology which is certificated by ABC Awards and is equivalent to an A-level. This is a nationally recognised qualification and can be used, not only to become a professional Reflexologist, but also counts as 'accredited prior learning' towards a degree in health sciences.

As an AoR qualified Reflexologist, you will automatically qualify for entry to the CNHC and NHS Register of Reflexologists and be paid by many private healthcare companies.

Don't I have to do an introductory course first?

No. Many Further Education colleges will tell you that you need to do a VTCT Reflexology course first, before the ABC course - this is completely unnecessary.

I've done a VTCT/IIHHT course - how do I upgrade to a qualification recognised by the AoR?

Jubilee College runs 'bridging courses', that allow qualified practitioners to upgrade their qualification for AoR membership. The bridging course runs alongside the Practitioner's Diploma, but Bridgers only have to attend 10 out of the 14 classes. Therefore, the cost of the course is cheaper too. For a download on bridging courses, click here. For pricing and other information, please contact the college.
