Frequently Asked Questions

Confused about which course?

There are many courses and organisations, all apparently offering the same level of qualification and training. However, as many students find out, this is not always the case.

Firstly, find out if the course you are interested in is one of the new seven module qualifications, offered by either City and Guilds, ITEC, VTCT or ABC Awards. If it is, then you will be fine. If the course offered is something other than seven modules, it may not be recognised by any of the major Reflexology organisations, the CNHC or the NHS.

If the training establishment is only offering a four module unit by City and Guilds, ITEC, VTCT or ABC Awards, then you will have to do more training later in order to attain a seven module qualification (which will, of course, be at further expense to yourself).  Furthermore, the two most widely recognised professional reflexologists association, the Association of Reflexologists (AoR) and Professional Reflexology (PR), will only accept graduates with a seven module qualification.

Secondly, find out if the school you are proposing to study with, enables you to join the CNHC, via the professional organisation it is linked to. For example, Jubilee College is linked with the Association of Reflexologists (Aor), Professional Reflexology (PR) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT). All of these can guarantee you access to the CNHC (once you have successfully completed the seven module diploma).

Next, find out if the course is delivered entirely by the college you are thinking of joining. Some training establishments will 'farm out' part of their training (particularly Anatomy and Physiology) to online training providers - you may then not get the necessary teaching support for this element of the course. Jubilee College trains all its student for 100% of the course, giving dedicated contact teaching.

Finally, if the course provider describes their course as "Level 3 equivalent" (or anything else that sounds like "equivalent"), it may be nothing of the sort. A level three qualification is either just that, or nothing at all. There are no other Reflexology qualifications that are officially recognised, apart from ABC Awards, ITEC, VTCT or City & Guilds in the UK.  Neither is there a Reflexology qualification that is at a higher level than Level 3. (You can get a degree in Complementary Therapies [Level 7], but the university will use one of these four awarding bodies for each of the component therapies on the course).

Why train on a course recognised by the Association of Reflexologists or Professional Reflexology?

Why choose Jubilee College?

Jubilee College is currently the largest Reflexology training college in the UK. It has six training venues in Birmingham, Leicester, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and another between Nottingham and Derby. David Wayte, the College Principal, is the only Reflexologist in the UK to be a member of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), is a fully qualified lecturer (CertEd), having trained at DeMontfort University, and a Fellow of the Association of Reflexologists (AoR). Jubilee College has a student success rate of 97% and operates a 'lifetime support' system for all graduates. Students wishing to swap training dates between the venues are able to do so, making training throughout the year easier. In addition, the College also operates a flexible training plan, so you can choose if you want to study over one academic year (10 months), 14 months, 17 months or 2 years.

What entry qualifications do I need?

To succeed on this course, it is more about determination and hard work (since the course is intensive) rather than previous qualifications. A GCSE in Biology will be helpful, but it is not essential.

How long does the course last?

The Practitioner's Diploma course normally runs for one academic year (Sept - July). However, some students prefer to extend their period of study to suit their learning speed.

Students can, if they wish, split the course and study one module at a time. This enables study to be undertaken at a slower pace - but does incur a slightly higher charge. Jubilee College aims to support the needs of all its students.

What happens if I can't get to all the training dates?

100% attendance is required for the duration of the course. However, we do understand that life is full of unexpected events. Therefore, the course is designed so that students can swap training dates by attending other venues (eg, if you can't make a Nottingham venue date, you can attend the same lesson at Sheffield, or any of the other venues).

What qualification will I get?

You will qualify with ABC Awards, seven module, Level 3, Practitioner's Diploma in Reflexology, Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology. You will also get a level three diploma in Business studies and Health, Safety & Hygiene. These are nationally recognised qualification and can be used, not only to become a professional Reflexologist, but also counts as 'accredited prior learning' towards a degree in health sciences.

As an AoR or PR qualified Reflexologist, you will automatically qualify for entry to the CNHC and NHS Register of Reflexologists and be paid by many private healthcare companies.

Don't I have to do an introductory course first?

No. Many Further Education colleges will tell you that you need to do an entry-level Reflexology course first, before the seven module course - this is completely unnecessary.
